Government takes cautious approach in considering inclusion of Post Office Capture convictions in legislative overturning

The government has stated that it will not automatically include prosecutions of subpostmasters who used the Post Office’s old Capture software in the forthcoming legislation to overturn convictions related to the Horizon system. Minister Kevin Hollinrake informed MPs that the government lacks the necessary “body of evidence” to include former Capture users in the legislation. Since the airing of ITV’s dramatization of the Post Office Horizon scandal, former subpostmasters have shared stories of issues caused by the Capture system, putting pressure on the Post Office and government to investigate further. Hollinrake clarified during a debate in the House of Commons that the required evidence has not yet been gathered for this unprecedented legislation.
