Tech Diversity Hindered by Misunderstandings and Underrepresentation

Research conducted by the Institute of Coding (IoC) has revealed that a small number of people believe the UK tech sector is representative of the country as a whole. The IoC surveyed over 2,000 adults in the UK, with the support of TechUK, and found that only 21% of respondents think the technology industry reflects the diversity of the general public. Previous studies have shown that the lack of visible role models and misconceptions about tech careers act as deterrents for entering the sector. The IoC aims to address these issues by offering free courses to develop digital skills and encourage individuals from all backgrounds to pursue tech careers.
