Exporting a Google Doc from Your iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you’re using Google’s Workspace apps at work or from home, you probably have a few Google mobile apps on your phone. For instance, the Google Docs app on iOS helps you keep your documents handy and organized. Plus, it allows you to export your documents or share them with other apps. Here are some straightforward steps for exporting a Google Doc from your iPhone.

First, open the Google Docs app and select the document you want to export. Once you’re in the document, look for the three-dot icon in the top right corner. Tap it, then choose “Share & Export” from the menu.

In the next menu, you can add collaborators or make a copy. To create a PDF or Word file, tap “Send a Copy.” A pop-up will prompt you to pick between PDF and Word (.docx). Select your preferred option; you should see a blue checkmark next to your choice. Tap “OK” to proceed.

If you want to share your document using AirDrop, a gray menu appears at the bottom of your screen after you tap “OK.” There, you can choose an available AirDrop user, email the file, import it to iBooks as a PDF, or add it to iCloud Drive.

If you opt for email, the document pops up as an attachment in a new message in Apple Mail. Just add the recipient and your message, then hit send. The recipient can easily save it.

Another method to export documents is through Print Preview. Open your chosen Google Doc and tap the three-dot icon, then select “Print Preview.” You’ll see your document preview; tap the upload icon in the top right corner to access the iOS Share Sheet again. From there, you’ll find many of the same options as before.

That’s how you manage your Google Docs on the go!
